The first realtor took one look at it and never called us back, but have now managed to list it with a local realtor.

The house is in far better shape than when we first bought it, and we dreamed of taking it as far as we could, making it our forever home. If only we had known about housing bubbles, the federal reserve, and the future lack of carpentry work, but the past is the past and we are moving on.

The house now has a much larger kitchen, new plumbing, a newer furnace, new electrical, and sheetrock has replaced the plaster walls. There are several projects still left though; nothing structural, but projects that need attention nonetheless – roofing, siding, the bathroom, and heating in one part of the house, for example.

We put our hearts into this project, individualizing it to suit our family’s style and needs. Being an old school house, it has a lot of character and personality itself, and if someone had time and money they could make the place beautiful.

So many memories. Knocking out all the walls the day we signed the papers, spending our second night of marriage in our bedroom full of sheetrock dust, late nights spent putting creative ideas into existence, bringing our first baby home, our second child born in our bathroom, our third child born in the livingroom, playing hide-and-seek in all the little spaces an old house provides, kids bouncing on our king-size bed, visiting the neighbors…

All this to say, it may need work, but this old house is a nice one, and I hope it serves some good family well.

Do I think it will sell? Probably not for some time. A lot of nicer houses are going for cheap right now. It may take another year and a half, but the foreclosure process will continue and we’ll aim to build our dream house on our current land, by cash.
